GRADES: While there are three grades this week, please take time to review your My Work screen in Edsby (Assessments tab) to ensure that I have no errors or haven’t missed late/resubmitted assignments. Send me an Edsby message (not a message via the My Work Screen) with the assignment name that needs to be fixed. I will finalize grades early next week and post them as I did Third Quarter letter grades.

TUESDAY NOTES:

  • Last week! You’re done when you’re done.

WEDNESDAY NOTES:

  • You are encouraged to submit your final PDF to Edsby AND the Digital Portfolio on the SAME DAY. However, Friday is the absolute deadline in case you have technical issues with Digital Portfolio. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE!

THURSDAY NOTES:

  • Get it done today so you can start your summer, at least as far as APCR goes. If you submit to Edsby AND Digital Portfolio today or early tomorrow, I would still be able to help with issues later Friday (1-1:30 PM).
  • I answered all questions asked via the EdPuzzle video. Not sure how you access them, but logging back in is the first step!

FRIDAY NOTES:

  • Today is the day! Get your papers into the Digital Portfolio and complete all of the SUBMIT FINAL process.

APCR week of May 11

May 11–May 15 To Do Office Hours
Monday Similarity Report Assignment* (due in Turnitin by Thur 11:59 PM) 1–2 PM
Tuesday Check paper for formatting 2–3 PM
Wednesday Check paper for grammar 12–1 PM
Thursday Review Academic Paper Submission Checklist 1–2 PM
Friday Review Final Paper Checklist 12–1 PM
  • Zoom ID: 265 940 8696
  • Password: taitl

*Similarity Report Assignment: You have until Thursday night to upload. Technical issues (i.e. not being able to edit a PDF, export a PDF, or save printed paper as a single PDF) will NOT be an excuse for late uploads. You should plan to upload by Wednesday night and leave Thursday just in case you are having technical issues.

Optional Peer Review opportunity: Some students have expressed the desire for peer review focused on specific sections of the Academic Paper. If you are interested, please send me an Edsby message by Monday night with the section you would like to focus on, and I will attempt to pair you with another like-minded student.

TUESDAY NOTES:

  • Word Count…some of you have varying levels of word count accuracy based on the form you submitted. I know I had the 4th draft due before the Word Count form, but please update (and continue to update) your word count as you make edits. If you use the Worksheet posted last week, you can just edit the worksheet when you modify certain sections.
  • Please remember that tech issues will not excuse late Similarity Report assignments! START NOW!!!!

WEDNESDAY NOTES:

  • I have office hours 12-1 PM today, which would be a good time to work out technical issues if you are having them. Similarity Report due tomorrow night!
  • Please include ALL pages of your Similarity Report in your upload, even if there were no marked/highlighted sections.

THURSDAY NOTES:

  • Again, I need all pages of your Similarity Report when you submit to Turnit in with your annotations, even if there were no marked/highlighted sections.
  • Make sure I can see your comments/annotations on the file you submit.
  • Deadline is 11:59 PM tonight.

FRIDAY NOTES:

  • Please be sure to review each checklist and edit your paper accordingly. While there is some overlap, there are also some unique points to each.
  • Don’t forget the College Board YouTube playlist if would like to learn about other sections. I am assigning the last video about submission, so you shouldn’t watch that one yet (mine will be in EdPuzzle).

APCR week of May 4

Monday Look over feedback from the Paper Element Peer Review 1–2 PM
Tuesday Revision 3: Academic Paper (4th draft) (due in Turnitin by Fri 11:59 PM) 12–1 PM
Wednesday Read Revision 3 paper out loud, edit accordingly 2–3 PM
Thursday Redact all personal information from Revision 3 paper 12–1 PM
Friday Complete Word Count O365 Form using Revision 3 paper (submit form by Sat 11:59 PM); Using this Word Count Worksheet may help with accurate Form submission 1–2 PM
  • Zoom ID: 265 940 8696
  • Password: taitl

Mrs. Tait has sent your Paper Element Peer Review feedback to you via an Edsby message.

Redact personal information: Your paper can NOT contain any reference to your name, high school, or city. The most specific information you can mention is “West Central Florida.” This includes your appendices (like consent forms). You have three options.

  1. Within the body of the paper, you can rephrase sentences to say “a high school in West Central Florida” as opposed to “Plant High School.” This option is good if you only refer to the high school or city by name once.
  2. You can create and use a pseudonym throughout your paper (“a high school in West Central Florida that will be referred to as Washington High School”). This option is good if you refer to the high school name or city name a lot.
  3. Highlight any text that is identifying and select to highlight black (“participants were chosen from Plant High School in Tampa, Florida”). This option is good if you refer to the school or city a moderate amount. It is also how you should handle the personal information on your consent form since you should not be re-wording it.

–Referencing “a high school in West Central Florida” is not going to look good if you don’t follow it up with more information about the school (i.e. urban/suburban/rural, demographic information, free and reduce lunch numbers, enrollment numbers, etc.). Some of that information for Plant can be found here and here.

–Related note: In my three years, this has only happened once, but it bothered me so much that I will hence forth share. If your References page has URLs, please make sure these are NOT share links from your personal OneDrive account!

TUESDAY NOTES:

  • This is a good week for you to address those things you answered to the first question on the form: What are some things that you personally know you need to do with regards your Academic Paper before the final submission to College Board?
  • We will be submitting the FINAL draft of our paper the week of May 18th. There will be a video to walk you through the submission process.

ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS FROM FRIDAY’S SURVEY

WEDNESDAY NOTES:

  • Check out the link above for answers to questions you asked on last week’s survey. It includes links to some requested resources and information. You have two weeks to get your paper finalized!

THURSDAY NOTES:

  • It’s cool if you want to submit your 4th draft early, but don’t short change yourself with the time this week to just focus on your paper and no one else’s! Also, make sure your most current draft ends up on Turnitin by Friday night so that it is available for optional peer review activities next week. Remember you can resubmit up until the deadline.

FRIDAY NOTES:

  • Your Academic Paper: Revision 3 (4th draft) is due tonight in Turnitin.
  • I intend for you to do the Word Count form at the same time you are submitting your 4th draft. However, just in case you were submitting just under the wire, the deadline for the Word Count form is not until Saturday night.
  • Optional Peer Review opportunity: Some students have expressed the desire for peer review focused on specific sections of the Academic Paper. If you are interested, please send me an Edsby message no later than Monday night with the section you would like to focus on, and I will attempt to pair you with another like-minded student.
  • Another teacher shared this resource for students concerned with either a low or high word count.

APCR week of April 27

Please remember that uploads to Edsby should be via a Submit button for the same name assignment. The Submit buttons can be found on the Class page (not group) or the Calendar. Do NOT send me a personal Edsby message with your file!

TUESDAY NOTES:

  • All Paper Element Peer Review files that can be sent have been sent via Edsby. Check your personal messages for the file.
  • You are expected to provide feedback for EVERY ROW of the form. Both positive, constructive criticism, and helpful tips/suggestions/help are expected.

WEDNESDAY NOTES:

  • Again, please spend good time and give good feedback on EVERY row in the Paper Element Peer Review document. You might be the difference maker between a student getting a 2 versus 3 or a 3 versus a 4. Look for places they can improve! There is no rule that says everyone in the class can’t get 5′s, so you helping won’t be a detriment to your own score (it’s not like someone who busts the curve in math class)!

THURSDAY NOTES:

  • Paper Element Peer Review must be Submitted via Edsby by 11:59 PM tonight. Do not send Mrs. Tait an Edsby message.
  • Even if a student has done something well in your  paper (marked with a ), you still need to provide feedback on what exactly they have done well and why. Some students don’t necessarily realize where the strengths of their paper lie and therefore might change it later if someone doesn’t point it out!

FRIDAY NOTES:

  • Don’t forget to submit the O365 form linked in the table above (due Sun night).
  • Given the responses to the EdPuzzle this week, I’d like to remind or inform you that College Board made videos pertaining to every aspect of the Academic Paper. They can be found on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLoGgviqq4845Tiot5ihu6Axzh81Po2mOo. While I am not going to assign them all, some of you may wish to view some of the other videos pertaining to other sections. Next week is largely going to be self-editing versus peer editing.

In a holding pattern

No new information for today.

I am going to test out Zoom Thur or Fri, so be on the lookout for a session ID to join.

RDC Refection info coming out Thursday, not due until Tuesday night.

As per the new normal, comment below or use the Edsby group for questions.

What’s coming up

The district has asked that we assign no grades this week. Thus, the 1st draft of your Academic Paper that was previously due on Sun 3/29 has been postponed. Due dates will not only occur on Sunday nights as they have for much of the 3rd quarter.

There are two items on the horizon for next week:

1) Reflection for the RDC section. Directions will be shared perhaps by the end of this week, but not due until early next week.

2) Writing an abstract. I will make a short video covering the expectations for the abstract so that you may write an appropriate one for your 1st draft of the full Academic Paper.

3) Reminder about sections of the paper. I will also remind you what sections your paper needs to include for the 1st draft of the full Academic Paper, which remember won’t be due until later next week.

Otherwise, you can begin reading over your full paper and making any tweaks or edits as you see fit. Some of you needed to back track to update your methods sections based on how you analyzed your data. Others may still need to improved upon presentation of data via tables and/or graphs.

As always, please comment below or post in the Edsby group if you have any other questions. Try to limit direct messages to those that are truly of a personal nature.

Aren’t you glad you’re done with data collection?!

This week is intended primarily for teachers to prepare for online instruction and to get students acclimated to what online learning might look like. Thankfully for you all, this transition won’t be a traumatic experience.

1) If you have not seen my earlier Edsby group post about the AP exam, please check it out. Simply put, you will still upload your paper but not do a presentation for College Board. That means you are 90% done!

2) This means we will be doing several rounds of editing our final papers. I may have a few short videos on some of the last elements in your paper or to provide instructions regarding an assignment. Please pay attention to directions especially as it pertains to where you are to submit assignments.

3) I am looking into options for office hours where I would be available real-time to answer questions. Many teachers are using Zoom. Let me know in the comments if you have other ideas or preferences.

The commenting feature is turned on within PlantLectures now so that we can avoid heavy traffic at Edsby. Please feel free to respond to this post with any other questions you might have and I will do my best to answer them. I will try to monitor both PlantLectures and Edbsy for comment but DMs in Edsby or email are still best for personal communications. Hope you all are doing well!
